As the world’s top music artists compete on the music awards show, La Voz is front and center.
That’s because this year’s nominees are making history as the first time women have been included among the top five nominees.
The award ceremony is also notable as the first time that hip hop will be recognized as a genre on the awards show.
“We’re honored to be honored by you,” says Luis Corcuffo, president and co-founder of L.A.’s Music.
There are three categories: Album of the Year, Best Urban Album and Best New Artist, the latter of which is the first time a genre has been recognized for the first time.
Among the nominated acts are Selena and Shakira (Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year). Notorious B.I.G. and 50 Cent (Best Urban Album) and Shakira (Best New Artist).
And the nominees are so diverse that the awards show is considered one of the most diverse events in the entertainment world as it celebrated Latin music from all around the world.
“We’re here to honor the music of all musical eras from all corners of the world,” says Jorge A. Gonzalez, executive director of the Latin Recording Academy.
But what’s different this year is that it’s more diverse than ever before.
